In this, his latest thriller, Connelly has brought together his three favourite characters: Detective Renee´Ballard, lawyer Mickey Haller, Bosch´s half brother, and, of course, Harry Bosch, retired, but plodding on just like his creator.

The result of this combination is merely additive, no real improvement, no real development. Connelly seems to have lost his creative abilities. The story is just more of the same, and, sad to say, rather boring.
