Rothschild Hannah

House of Trelawney

Bloomsbury, London 2020

Galbraith3

Hannah Rothschild is a successful writer , filmmaker and “philanthropist”, whatever that means.

Here she describes in loving detail the decay of an 800-year-old family and their once splendid castle on the Cornish coast.

The reader hears and sees the crumbling turrets and dripping  ceilings of this noble home, which serves as a symbol for the ruin of the family and their fortune.

One of the offsprings, young Blaze, has gone to London to make her career in banking. As the story is set around the financial crash 2008/2009, we witness how she predicts the crash, but cannot save her own company. A rival of hers, fund manager Joshua Wolfe, is a lot more successful than she is.

But, of course, there are lots of other narrative trails to follow, before the story takes a conciliatory turn in the end.
