The Burning Man

Bantam, New York 1997

Galbraith3

This thriller is a kind of “Parzival-story” as the hero has failed his first test and so has to undergo an ordeal before he is condoned.

In this case, Peter Hale, son of a famous lawyer in Portland, has screwed up an important case, because he is too full of himself to see the legal problems.

He is disinherited by his father and sent into the wild, a rundown public defender´s office in rural Oregon.

When a mentally retarded young man is accused of the murder of a young woman, Peter takes the case and is drawn deeper and deeper into a quagmire of conflicting interests.

In the end, of course, he wins his case and true love and his father is reconciled.

A good read!
