Fforde Jasper

Lost in a good book

Hooder & Stoughton, London 2002

Galbraith3

This is the sequel to the brilliant “Eyre Affair”, but, I´m sad to admit, it does not in the least match it. On the cover it says “Forget all the rules of time, space, and reality...”. And, the disappointed reader might add: “all rules of novel-writing”.

Again we are invited to accompany Thursday Next on her adventures, but they lack lustre and logic. You feel reminded of Douglas Adam´s “Restaurant at the end of the universe”, the last of his four “Hitchhiker” novels. I wonder why Fforde´s editor could not do anything positive about this book here. Fforde has too many brilliant ideas, he just cannot organize them properly.
